Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is being developed by Kojima Productions at published by Konami Digital Entertainment exclusively for the Playstation 3.
Metal Gear Solid 4's development has been, as with many games, a long process. Originally slated for a 2007 release announced at E3 2006, MGS4 will now be released Q2 2008. Since the footage shown at E3 2006 and TGS that same year, the graphics have been updated greatly and are a rather different style than the original footage now thought to have been a target render.
During an interview with GamePro magazine, Hideo Kojima when asked if MGS4 would really hit shelves in 2007, he replied "Raiden said that, not me!" which gave fans a huge hint that we wouldn't be seeing Snake's final mission in the PS3 launch year. According to executive producer Ryan Paton, Kojima hates dissapointing people and feels very upset about having to delay the game for the fans, so he is trying his best to get it out in Q2 2008. The release will also be worldwide, but all within the same week not all on the same day.
Kojima has confirmed many a time that this will be the last game in the Metal Gear Solid series, and will see Snake's end. However, at Games Convention in German, August 2007, he said, when questioned if there would be another Metal Gear Solid game for Playstation 3, he replied: "Metal Gear Solid 4 will be the end of Snake's story. Snake will die and the series will end. However, Metal Gear is like James Bond and will never die."
